Fish pedicure is now widely available in London. There have been some health scares over the treatment in recent months but if you choose a quality beauty salon in London I really don't think there's anything to worry about.
Garra Rufa fish have long been used around the world and are sometimes called 'doctor fish.' They are used to treat skin conditions such as psoriasis as they suck and eat dead skin cells. At first this may not sound very pleasant but it has become a very popular beauty treatment and is widespread in major cities like London. Fish pedicures have long been common in Turkey - where the fish originate - and are also popular in southeast Asian countries
A typical treatment session involves removing your shoes and socks and rolling up your trousers before plunging your feet into a fish tank in front of your chair. The fish pedicure spas in London typically have luxurious leather padded seats which add to the experience. Each visitor has their own fish tank filled with around a hundred fish and these quickly swarm around your feet. This can be quite shocking at first but you soon get used to it! The water is warmand the sensation is actually very pleasant as the little garra rufa nibble away at the dead skin cells leaving fresh healthy ones behind.
I find my feet do feel different after a session but to get the real benefits will take several visits. Prices for fish pedicures vary so its worth shopping around. As well as being a fun and interesting treatment it's a non-abrasive exfoliation and massage which is said to improve circulation in the feet and I certainly recommend it.
For fish pedicures in London I recommend -
Zoola Fish in Camden Market
Anesis Spa in Clapham
Aqua Sheko Soho
Bliss Fish in Covent Garden

Fish Pedicure Treatment
Fish pedicure treatment is something I've known about for ages but finally took the plunge - so to speak! - and went to a local salon recently.
I'm lucky that my local beauty salon now has a fish pedicure spa as part of the business. On arrival, my feet were washed and towel dried - very embarrasssing as I'd gone straight from work and my feet were hot and sweaty and had sock marks!
I have to admit it I had a little shock when I first dipped my feet into the pedicure tank as the water was so cool. The next shock was that the fish swarmed to my feet straight away! The little creatures in question are called garra rufa fish and their unique qualities have been known about for many years. In Turkey for example the natural fish pedicure is a long established beauty treatment.
The fish nibble away at dead skin cells with a gentle action which leaves fresh healthy skin cells behind. The sensation is actually very nice and feels like 'pins and needles.'
I know there have been some health warnings about garra rufa fish treatments - generally relating to cross infection. If you go to a qulaity beauty salon with good hygiene standards I don't think this is anything to worry about. My feet were washed at the salon before and after the treatment and so I would have no concerns at my salon.
Prices for fish pedicure treatments vary but for me it was a little luxury and well worth it. My feet felt incredibly fresh and soft after just one session. If you are considering it I strongly suggest you find a local salon or treatment spa and give it a go!
